Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati has been awarded the women’s player of the year at the FIFA Best Awards for the third consecutive year, while England manager Sarina Wiegman has been recognized as coach of the year for the fifth time.
Bonmati, 27, played a crucial role in the Spain squad that placed second to England at Euro 2025, where she received the tournament’s best player award.
The Spaniard secured a domestic treble with Barcelona, netting 12 goals and providing six assists in La Liga F, but finished as a runner-up in the Champions League after her club fell to Arsenal in the final.
Bonmati was awarded player of the season by UEFA for the competition, tallying nine goal contributions across 11 matches and netting a goal in their 4-1 semi-final second-leg victory over Chelsea.
She expressed regarding her FIFA award, “I feel thankful to receive this honor.” Without the players, coaches, and fans, I wouldn’t have achieved this win—[still] I will savor it.
Bonmati received the women’s Ballon d’Or in September, making her the first player to achieve this three times, having won in 2023 and 2024.
She won the FIFA Best award in 2023 after a World Cup triumph with Spain and once more in 2024 after achieving a landmark quadruple with Barcelona.
Arsenal and Spain player Mariona Caldentey and Barcelona striker Alexia Putellas received nominations for this year’s FIFA Best award.
Paris St-Germain and the France forward Ousmane Dembele received the men’s award during the ceremony held in Qatar.
