The Imo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for gunmen who killed a driver and abducted motorists in the Amala area of the Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement by the command spokesperson, Henry Okoye, on Monday, the incident occurred around 5:50pm on December 7.

According to the PPRO, the armed men were said to have emerged from a bush path and opened fire on a Toyota Highlander with number plate SMK 514 BD, killing the driver.

He also disclosed that the gunmen whisked away the occupants of a Lexus RS300, marked FSD 334 XA.

“The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has launched an intensive operation with other security agencies and local vigilante groups to apprehend the hoodlums behind the attack and abduction of motorists at Amala Autonomous Community, Ngor-Okpala LGA, on 7th December 2025, and possibly rescue the kidnapped victims.

“Preliminary findings indicate that at about 17:50 hrs, armed men emerged from a bush path at Amala, shot the driver of a Toyota Highlander Jeep (SMK 514 BD), and abducted the occupants of a Lexus RS300 with number plate FSD 334 XA,” the statement added.

Okoye reported that officers from the Ngor-Okpala Division hurried to the location following a distress call, noting that the area was secured and the injured driver was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

He stated that the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, has directed an extensive operation with police units, various security organizations, and local vigilantes to locate the assailants and free the abducted victims.

He mentioned that operatives had initiated bush-combing and search-and-rescue missions in the Amala forest area and surrounding communities, with inquiries already producing encouraging leads.

“The Imo State Police Command assures residents that all necessary resources are being deployed to rescue the victim and forestall future occurrences. Members of the public are urged to remain calm and provide any information that may assist the ongoing operation to the nearest police station or via 0803 477 3600,” the statement added.
