The Rivers State Police Command has denied a viral video circulating on social media that erroneously claimed Fulani herders staged an attack in the state and were defeated by Ijaw youths.

SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Police People Relations Officer, issued a statement on Wednesday calling the reports “entirely false, misleading, and designed to incite panic among the public.”

She insisted that the Command had received no reports of Fulani herdsmen attacks in any region of Rivers State and that the narrative was made up by people who wanted to undermine the state’s current peace and tranquility.

This clarification comes only days after another viral video surfaced showing young guys, allegedly Fulani, being viciously mauled in the bush, some with obvious gunshot wounds.

The police asked members of the public to avoid such unconfirmed items and refrain from distributing materials that could cause tension or harm the state’s reputation.

According to Iringe-Koko, the Command, in partnership with other security agencies, is still completely committed to protecting lives and property, preventing crime, and ensuring peace in Rivers State.

She stated that extensive security measures, such as patrol teams, surveillance units, and tactical squads, are currently in place.

She stressed that the Command, led by CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, psc, mnips, is committed to transparent and responsible policing.

The police asked locals to be calm and vigilant and to always check information through official channels before sharing it on any media platform.
