Ezra Olubi, Paystack’s co-founder and former chief technology officer, claims he was “unfairly” sacked by the company due to sexual misconduct charges.

Olubi personally reported the discovery in a blog post published on Saturday, November 23, 2025.

The controversy began in mid-November, when a social media post accusing Olubi of abusive behavior went viral.

The backlash encouraged online users to search for explicit tweets he sent between 2009 and 2013, resulting in significant criticism.

Following the claim, Paystack acknowledged that it had suspended Olubi and launched a formal inquiry, stating that it had established a review procedure and planned to appoint an independent investigator.

However, in his blog entry titled “Terminated,” Olubi stated that he was fired while the inquiry was still ongoing and without the opportunity to defend himself.

“Over the past few days, my name and reputation, built over years as co-founder and technical leader at Paystack, have been called into question because of information circulating online,” he wrote.

He stated that the company’s board suspended him and initiated what it described as an “independent” investigation, prompting him to remain silent.

“Once that process began, I chose not to make any public statements. I did this to avoid interfering with the investigation and because I expected a fair, thorough, and unbiased review of the allegations being discussed online,” he wrote.

Olubi stated that he was not given a hearing before the corporation terminated his contract.

He stated, “I was not given a meeting or an opportunity to respond before my contract was ended,” adding that the termination “appeared to contravene the terms of [his] suspension and the company’s internal policies.”

He claimed that the quiet during the probe allowed “assumptions and misrepresentations to spread without challenge.”

Olubi argued that the resurrected tweets did not reflect his conduct.

“Those who know me personally or professionally understand that the posts being circulated do not reflect my conduct or the way I have lived my life.

“I have always… conducted myself in a manner that respects everyone’s dignity and safety,” he wrote.

He stated that his legal team would “explore possible steps in response.”

An individual who had a past relationship with Olubi made personal complaints online, which sparked the allegations.

This prompted additional scrutiny of multiple explicit tweets Olubi sent between 2009 and 2013, several of which included sexually provocative remarks about coworkers and youngsters. He has now terminated his X account.

Paystack, founded in 2015 by Olubi and Shola Akinlade, is Africa’s biggest payments company.

It was the first Nigerian business admitted into Y Combinator in 2016 and was acquired by Stripe in 2020 for more than $200 million.
