The Bauchi State Police Command has reported the deaths of five officers and the capture of many bandits following an ambush in Sabon Sara village, Darazo Local Government Area, in the state.

Ahmed Wakil, the Police Public Relations Officer, revealed this in a statement on Sunday.

According to Wakil, the incident took place on November 22, 2025, when combined police tactical units, acting on intelligence, went on a visibility patrol to prevent and manage farmer-herder conflict near the Sabon Sara axis.

He claimed a Good Samaritan had earlier informed the Command that personnel from the Rapid Response Squad, 10 PMF, Bauchi, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and the State Intelligence Department had been ambushed by unidentified Fulani youths during the operation.

Five officers, Ahmad Muhammad (SID), ASP Mustapha Muhammad (10 PMF), Inspector Amarhel Yunusa (10 PMF), Inspector Idris Ahmed (10 PMF), and Corporal Isah Muazu (AKU), were killed in the ambush.

Inspector Isah Musa (SID) and Inspector Yusuf Gambo (SID) were also injured, to varied degrees.

Wakil said, “Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer, SP Auwalu Ilu, led a reinforcement team to the scene, rescued the injured officers, and evacuated the deceased to the General Hospital, Darazo.

“The injured are currently receiving medical attention, while the bodies of the fallen officers have been deposited at the mortuary.”

He also stated that efforts were underway to locate and apprehend the attackers, assuring the public that the police command was still dedicated to bringing the culprits to justice.

Wakil stated that the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, had visited the area for an on-the-spot assessment and expressed condolences to the families of the dead officers, while reiterating the command’s commitment to upholding its duty of preserving lives and property.
