President Bola Tinubu will leave Abuja on Wednesday for a two-nation visit to South Africa and Angola, where he is expected to join world leaders for high-level global and continental engagements.

In a statement on Tuesday, Bayo Onanuga, the President’s special adviser on information and strategy, confirmed that Tinubu’s first stop will be Johannesburg for the G20 summit.

Tinubu is attending at the invitation of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who currently chairs the G20. The Nigerian leader was also present at last year’s edition in Brazil at the request of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

This year’s summit, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, will gather leaders of the world’s 20 largest economies alongside representatives of the European Union, African Union and major global financial institutions.

Themed ‘Solidarity, equality, sustainability’, the summit will focus on inclusive growth, disaster-risk reduction, just energy transitions, food systems, critical minerals and artificial intelligence. Tinubu is also expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings on peace, security and development.

After the G20 summit, Tinubu will proceed to Luanda, Angola, for the 7th AU-EU meeting holding from 24 to 25 November 2025. The gathering will convene heads of state, young leaders, innovators and civil society to propose solutions to shared challenges, including climate change, infrastructure, inclusivity, the digital economy, manufacturing and agribusiness.

Tinubu will travel with senior government officials including Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar; Finance Minister Wale Edun; Solid Minerals Minister Dele Alake; Trade and Investment Minister Jumoke Oduwole; and NIA Director-General Mohammed Mohammed.

The President is expected back in Nigeria at the end of both meetings.
