The immediate past governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has expressed optimism that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will retake power in 2027.

Ortom made the statement in Makurdi on Friday while hosting the party’s G-14 members and other stakeholders from the state’s 14 local government areas.

The G-14 consists of the  party’s elders from the Benue North-East and Benue North-West senatorial districts.

The former governor refuted claims that he intended to secede from the PDP, calling them the “work of mischief makers.” He reaffirmed his commitment to the party, emphasizing that the PDP would emerge stronger and more united ahead of the 2027 election.

Ortom said, “What is required of all of us is to remain resolute and work together to build this party. I can assure you that if we remain united, the PDP will reclaim power in the state in the coming election.”

He informed members that he would not run for any elective positions in 2027 but would back all PDP candidates to guarantee success.

Ortom also asked all party aspirants to conduct extensive research and not be disheartened by the recent wave of defections to the ruling party.

Speaking at the ceremony, PDP G-14 leader Laha Dzever, who spoke on behalf of the forum, pledged continuous support and commitment to the former governor, praising Ortom’s purposeful leadership.
