The Nigeria Customs Service’s Tin Can Island Command seized two trucks containing illicit substances worth about ₦5.3 billion.

Comptroller Frank Onyeka, the Customs Area Controller, confirmed the seizures in a statement made Friday in Lagos.

Onyeka stated that the operation demonstrated the command’s dedication to intelligence-led border enforcement and trade compliance.

He added that the first shipment, HLXU8500072, was shipped from Montreal, Canada, and intercepted on September 4 following an intelligence investigation.

A joint physical examination revealed 156 packages of Colorado Indica weighing 78 kilograms and 1.2 kilograms of hashish oil concealed within four imported automobiles.

The second container, numbered FANU312876/9, was confiscated on Friday, October 24, after the command received actionable intelligence.

It contained 2,081 packages of Cannabis Indica weighing 1,093 kilograms and eight packages of crystal methamphetamine weighing eight kilograms, all stashed in four vehicles.

Customs valuation studies estimated the entire worth of seized drugs to be ₦5.304 billion.

Onyeka stated that the narcotics had been turned over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for investigation and prosecution.

He thanked the NDLEA, Navy, Police, and other agencies for their support during the operation.

The controller emphasized that the command would be watchful and uncompromising in executing Nigerian laws and trade standards.

He asked importers and exporters to completely comply with customs procedures and provide truthful documentation.

Onyeka commended the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, for his support and praised the media’s role in raising public awareness.

Daniel Onyishi, Commander of Narcotics at NDLEA Tin Can Strategic Command, thanked Customs for its vigilance and professionalism when he received the products.

Onyishi stated that the operation demonstrated a strong spirit of inter-agency coordination against drug trafficking.

He assured everyone that the NDLEA would conduct a thorough investigation and ensure the proper disposal of the seized chemicals.
