A State High Court sitting in Kano, presided over by Justice Musa Dahuru Muhammad, on Wednesday sentenced a football team coach, Hayatu Muhammad, to eight years’ imprisonment without the option of a fine for committing sodomy against his minor player.
The convict, a resident of Sanka in the Dala Local Government Area of the state, was discovered to have performed the offense twice in different locations. He first pled not guilty.
However, to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt, Kano State attorney Ibrahim Arif Garba presented five witnesses to testify against the defendant.
In his defense, the felon was the sole witness.
The offense violates Section 284 of the Penal Code Law.
After considering all witness statements and evidence produced throughout the trial, Justice Dahuru determined that the defendant committed the offense accused.
He sentenced him to four years on each of the two crimes.
Justice Dahuru further ruled that the sentences run concurrently, beginning on the day of the verdict.
