Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, announced in a statement on Facebook.
According to Alabrah, the governor resigned from the PDP alongside the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, and all PDP members in the state legislature.
Diri’s departure from the PDP ends months of speculation about his purported shift to the All Progressives Congress, but Alabrah has not said which political party he would join.
Chronicle NG gathered that the governor made the announcement on Wednesday during the weekly State Executive Council meeting inside Government House, Yenagoa.
It was also stated that the governor had submitted his resignation letter to the party.
When questioned about the development, Alabrah stated he couldn’t speak.
Mr. Solomon Agwanana, the PDP’s state chairman, did not respond to a request for comment.
