Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has stated that he and former governor and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike have addressed their political disagreements, hailing it as a significant step toward long-term peace in the state.
In a nationwide broadcast on Friday, Fubara said President Bola Tinubu’s six-month emergency rule had been difficult but finally allowed all sides to reconcile.
“In the course of the six-month period, Mr. President graciously brokered the peace process with all the parties successfully. Our leader, His Excellency, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON; all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly; and I, as your governor, have all accepted to bury the hatchet and embrace peace and reconciliation in the best interest of our dear Rivers State,” he said.
The governor’s return comes after President Bola Tinubu lifted a six-month emergency rule in March 2025, suspending Fubara, his deputy, and the Rivers State House of Assembly due to a political and legislative crisis.
The emergency lasted until the middle of September, when democratic administration was restored.
During the crisis, a peace agreement was reached with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, which ended their public feud.
The governor’s declaration comes amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers, which have resulted in violence between competing factions loyal to him and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
