Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City won the Manchester derby with a dominant 3-0 victory over Manchester United at the Etihad on Sunday.

Phil Foden scored first, followed by a great brace from Haaland to secure the victory.

Foden put City ahead in the first half with a headed finish following smart build-up play, giving the hosts the breakthrough they deserved based on their consistent possession.

United answered with intermittent counterthrusts but lacked a cutting final ball and struggled to put City’s goalie under constant pressure.

City won the game comfortably in the second half when Haaland, a persistent threat throughout, converted twice to defeat United.

The Norwegian striker’s movement and accurate finishing highlighted a return to form that has established him as one of Europe’s most feared forwards.

New signing Gianluigi Donnarumma made many excellent stops in his City debut to keep the scoreboard clean.

United had some bright moments and showed some fight, but mistakes from crosses and wasted opportunities prevented them from troubling City’s defensive structure.

Manager Ruben Amorim’s team has only won once in four games, whilst Pep Guardiola’s team is full of confidence heading into their next match.

As a result, the city now has more breathing room domestically.

Manchester City is now eighth in the Premier League, while United is ranked fourteenth.
