The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) resumed payments for arrears on Wednesday, marking the first disbursement since the last payment on June 3, following a two-month break.
This payment is for the new N77,000 monthly “allowee” authorized by the Federal Government.
Recall that on April 5th, NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu informed corps members who had recently completed their duty that they would receive the new N77,000 monthly allowance approved by the Federal Government.
Speaking at the Batch A 2025 Pre-Mobilization Workshop in Abuja, Nafiu stated, “Once money is allocated to offset the arrears, we would pay them. Even corps members who have lately passed away will benefit. We have their banking information.
He highlighted the administration’s commitment, saying, “Nigerians should not fret about that because the government is both responsible and responsive to their needs.”
The payment was confirmed by an ex-corps member who opted to remain anonymous. “After waiting for two months, I didn’t expect to see another payment alert. But, honestly, it’s more than simply the money; it’s about feeling like our efforts are worthwhile,” the ex-corps member said.
The payment of arrears by the NYSC, which covers the period from July 2024 to March 2025, comes after widespread frustration with the delay in implementation after the Federal Government authorized the allowance hike as part of its commitment to relieving economic hardship for young Nigerians.
