Kylian Mbappé struck twice as Real Madrid eased past Real Oviedo with a 3-0 victory at the Estadio Municipal Carlos Tartiere, extending their unbeaten run against the newly-promoted side to seven matches in LaLiga.

Xabi Alonso, who began his league campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Osasuna, saw his team secure back-to-back wins without conceding.

Although Alonso and his squad are still getting used to each other, they have managed to pick up successive wins in LaLiga without conceding.

In a surprise decision, Vinícius Júnior started on the bench, with Rodrygo taking his place. The Brazilian forward forced the first save of the game from Aarón Escandell, but Madrid struggled to create further clear chances in the opening half hour. Franco Mastantuono also went close, while Oviedo’s Leander Dendoncker tested Thibaut Courtois with a lob that was comfortably saved.

As halftime approached, Madrid’s quality told. Mbappé showcased his sharpness, turning onto Arda Güler’s pass before finishing superbly to give Los Blancos the lead.

The second half saw Oviedo enjoy more possession, but they rarely threatened Courtois, aside from a long-range attempt by Kwasi Sibo. At the other end, Federico Valverde missed a golden chance to double Madrid’s lead.

It was left to Mbappé once again to settle the contest. After being set up by Vinícius in the box, the Frenchman clinically finished into the bottom corner for his second of the night. Escandell later denied him a hat-trick, but Vinícius sealed the result late on with a composed strike from Brahim Díaz’s assist.

For Oviedo, head coach Veljko Paunović is still chasing his team’s first goal of the season.

Oviedo, meanwhile, are still waiting for their first goal of the 2025/26 league campaign, but there were positives head coach Veljko Paunović can take from the clash as he aims to keep them amongst the elite beyond this term.
