The Kebbi State Police Command has refuted a social media report claiming that Christian children recovered from kidnappers were detained in a Muslim-run orphanage in Birnin, Kebbi.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, released a statement on Saturday calling the publication unfounded and a deliberate attempt to destroy the police’s reputation.
He said, “The false report, allegedly authored by a corps member, claimed that a four-year-old boy named Uzochukwu was found in an orphanage, where he allegedly revealed that policemen had arrested his kidnappers, charged them to court, and subsequently kept him and other Christian children in the facility.
“The command categorically refutes the publication, condemning it as a mischievous narrative calculated to undermine the integrity, unwavering commitment and professionalism of officers in their relentless efforts of combating crimes and criminality in Kebbi State.”
The Command urged members of the public to dismiss the rumour, warning individuals and groups disseminating such false claims to refrain from conduct that could cause disaffection and mistrust in society.
Abubakar further assured everyone that the command remains dedicated to engaging with respectable media experts to educate the public about police actions and prevent the proliferation of fake news in the state.
