Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has raised alarm over the state of Nigeria’s economy under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, claiming that the middle class has disappeared due to what he described as “harsh neoliberal policies.”
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, the human rights lawyer criticized the economic direction of the current government and its approach to managing the nation’s resources.
Falana alleged that the Tinubu-led administration has handed over the country’s wealth to a small group of individuals, worsening inequality and pushing more Nigerians into poverty.
“You cannot be addressing income inequality in a country while handing over the nation’s resources to a few people in the name of privatisation,” Falana said.
“Most Nigerians cannot afford three square meals a day.
“The middle class has been wiped out by the neoliberal policies of the government,” he added.
Falana urged the government to reconsider its economic strategies, warning that failure to do so could further deepen the crisis.
“It is in the interest of the government to review its policies as soon as possible,” he cautioned.
