Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has relieved two commissioners of their duties and announced their replacements as part of a recent cabinet shake-up.

The development was made known on Thursday in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Dauda Iliya.

According to the statement, the commissioners affected by the reshuffle were those in charge of the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Intergovernmental and Special Duties.

While acknowledging the contributions of the outgoing officials, Governor Zulum stated, “We appreciate their services and wish them success in their future endeavours.” He thereafter named Engr. Mohammed Habib and Ibrahim Hala Hassan as the newly appointed commissioners to fill the vacant positions.

In a separate announcement, Governor Zulum also appointed Professor Yusuf Gana Balami as the new Executive Chairman of the Borno State Secondary Education Board.

Professor Balami, an expert in Educational Psychology, hails from Hawul Local Government Area in southern Borno. His public service career began in the Borno State Ministry of Education between 1984 and 1988 before he joined the University of Maiduguri, where he rose through academic ranks to become a professor in 2014.

The newly appointed chairman is affiliated with several professional organizations and has a strong record of academic publications, both as a lead and co-author.

Congratulating him, Governor Zulum said, “I urge Professor Balami to apply his wealth of experience in education both as an administrator and academician to improving the quality of secondary education in the state.”

The statement concluded that all newly appointed officials have been forwarded to the Borno State House of Assembly for confirmation.
