    Popular filmmaker Kayode Peters dies in Canada at 46

    Nigerian actor, filmmaker, and director, Kayode Adewumi, popularly known as Kayode Peters, has died in Toronto, Canada, after battling a long-term illness.

    His death was confirmed in a statement released by his family on Instagram. The filmmaker reportedly passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, June 28, 2025.

    The family wrote, “It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved, Kayode Peters Adewumi, who passed on peacefully this morning June 28, 2025, in Toronto, Canada. KP braved, challenged and conquered a long time illness until his last breath this morning.”

    Describing the late filmmaker’s legacy, the statement added, “KP, a cherished son, husband, father, brother, and friend, a gifted film maker, actor and producer whose work inspired many. Beyond his talent, it was his kindness, warmth, and generous spirit that truly defined him. He touched countless lives, both on and off the screen, and will be deeply missed.”

    Kayode Peters, an alumnus of the University of Lagos, began his creative journey with the Theatre 15 group on campus. He gained national recognition in 2004 for creating the popular sitcom Flatmates, and later served as executive producer of its successor, My Flatmates.

    He also contributed to other popular Nigerian television series, including Twilight Zone and Papa Ajasco and Company.

    In later years, he ventured into film directing, with credits including 13 Letters (2019) and Crazy Grannies (2021).
