The Lagos ministry of transportation has announced a traffic diversion on the Marine bridge to allow for maintenance works.

The federal ministry of works will handle the repairs.

A statement by Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Lagos commissioner for transportation, said the diversion will commence on Sunday, May 18 to Sunday, June 8, 2025.

Osiyemi said to minimise traffic disruption, the maintenance has been divided into two phases.

“Phase 1 will span from the foot of Marine Bridge (Lawani Oguntayo Road inbound Apapa/Costain) while Phase 2 will cover ljora Badia and Lilypond Access Ramp inbound Apapa,” the statement reads.

“During this course of the maintenance, motorists are advised to use the following alternative routes:

    • Housing: Lagos govt to introduce monthly rent payment system

“PHASE 1 — Motorists inbound Apapa from ljora Olopa. Motorists from Ijora Olopa heading towards Apapa are to use Ijora Causeway access ramp by Omni Retail Company and continue their journey.

“PHASE 2 — Motorists Inbound Apapa from Costain. Motorists heading to Apapa from Costain will be diverted into a contraflow on the lane inbound Costain.

“In the same vein, from 2nd to 8th June, 2025, Motorists from ljora Olopa going to Apapa will be diverted through Ijora Causeway access ramp by Omni Retail Company into Lilypond Access Road to continue their journeys.”

The commissioner said the bridge will be fully reopened on Monday, June 9, 2025.

He added that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will control vehicular movement along the corridor during the period.
