The three Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators from Kebbi, on Tuesday, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Chronicle NG gathered that their letters of defection were read separately on the floor of the chamber by Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, who presided over the plenary.
The senators are Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North) and Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South).
Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the APC, had earlier stated that the senators from Kebbi State who were elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are ready to defect to the party.
Ganduje stated this to State House correspondents following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Friday, May 9, 2025.
He stated that important stakeholders in Kebbi had many underground conversations before deciding that the three PDP senators from the state would defect to the APC.
“This is a good development, and it is in consonance with what is happening in Nigeria today.
“Almost every week in the Senate and House of Representatives, you see members of other political parties decamping to our party.
“So, we came here so that Mr President would bless this resolution, and he has graciously given his blessing, and by Tuesday you will see what will happen in the Red Chambers.
“Our constitution is very clear about this, and with our political dexterity in managing such affairs, I assure you that there will be a smooth integration,” said the APC chairman.
