The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced plans to question former Niger Delta militant commander Government Ekpemupolo, widely known as Tompolo, following an instance of alleged naira desecration.

In a statement on Monday on its official X account, the anti-corruption agency stressed that “nobody is above the law” and added, “Tompolo will have questions to answer!”

This announcement was accompanied by a graphic that purported to show cash abuse.

The outcry was prompted by a video that went viral on Sunday, originally posted on X.com by user Harrison A (handle: #harreceipts).

The video, taken during Tompolo’s 54th birthday celebration in April, shows him dancing while an associate showers him with ₦1,000 notes.

Social media commentators instantly blasted the display and requested EFCC action, accusing the agency of executing its regulations inconsistently.

Ugochukwu_96, an X user, commented, “EFCC no dey see these kind of people them. He is invisible.”

This is not the EFCC’s first crackdown on prominent persons for similar misbehaviour.

Recently, Lagos socialite Emeka Okonkwo (a.k.a. E-Money) was arrested for allegedly destroying naira notes and spraying US dollars.

Last week, the commission summoned Nollywood actor Iyabo Ojo and comedian Ayo Makun for questioning over alleged currency-spraying events.
