There was a heated debate between Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, senator representing Ebonyi North, and former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, during a Senate session on Tuesday.
Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan submitted a new petition to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, which resulted in the clash.
Ezekwesili attended the hearing alongside Akpoti-Uduaghan’s counsel, Abiola Akiode, and the petitioner, Zubairu Yakubu.
Trouble occurred when Yakubu sought to speak when Senate Committee Chairman Neda Imaseun was addressing the room.
When the senator was requested to quiet his microphone, Ezekwesili attempted to interfere but was interrupted by Nwaebonyi.
She then told the senator to “compose himself and stop making noise,” which caused a violent outburst.
“You’re a fool. What do you mean? Why are you talking to me like that? I will not take it. You’re an insult to womanhood. People like you cannot be here,” Nwaebonyi replied to Ezekwesili.
She called him a “hooligan,” further intensifying the altercation. The verbal exchange momentarily disrupted the hearing until order was restored.
Shortly after, Imaseun revealed that the subject was already before a court of law, putting the session to an abrupt stop.
