The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara surrounded himself with people that wished to be governor of the state.
Wike made the discovery while speaking at a magnificent welcome hosted by the Kalabari people of the state on Saturday.
According to him, those advising Fubara do not mean good for him and want him to vacate the seat for them.
He cited Tammy Danagogo, the Secretary to the State Government, as one of the people who initiated the feud between him and his successor, which plunged the state into turmoil.
The minister said, “The problem started when Danagogo, the secretary to the government, used his elder brother, who is a justice, to use an ex parte order to justify that 27 members of the Rivers Assembly have defected. Unnoticed. He also used the same order to say that the state governor can present the budget to three or four lawmakers.
“Look at Danagogo, who wanted to be governor. He was so pained that he was not given the ticket; he was the one following the governor, and he (Fubara) did not know. He will lead you (Fubara) to hellfire.
“You (Fubara) surrounded yourself with people who wanted to be governor, whom I said ‘no’, these people don’t mean well for Rivers State.’ They are the ones surrounding you, giving you advice. Do you think you will succeed? They will give bad advice, and look at what bad advice is doing to you. You are already down 2-0, and there’s more to come. They come there and abuse me, and you are happy; you don’t know it is you they want to destroy.”
Chronicle NG reports that hundreds of women of Kalabari descent in Rivers State barricaded the road leading into their kingdom, demanding Wike not to enter their territory for the Civic Reception arranged in his honour.
The women, dressed in black with white lace tied over their heads, invaded the location as early as 7 a.m. to launch the protest.
It should be noted that the NEW Associates had planned to host the minister for a grand reception on Saturday, March 15, in the Abalama village of the Asari-Toru Local Government Area.
However, the King of the Abalama Kingdom, where the event is scheduled to take place, His Royal Highness, King Big Tom-Tom, has encouraged the minister’s associates to cancel the event, stating that the community will not support any political gatherings at this time.
However, the event organisers continued with the preparation for the event, insisting that it take place as planned.
