The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has disclosed that Speaker Mudashiru Obasa is not expected to resign as part of the agreement to resolve the leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Speaking on rumors about Obasa’s resignation, the APC spokesperson in Lagos, Seye Oladejo, dismissed the claim.

“To the best of my knowledge, there was no time the arrangement for Obasa to resign came up in the terms of settlement of the crisis,” Oladejo stated.

Speaking on if he would drop the lawsuit, Oladejo said, “I’m aware that any moment from now, Obasa will withdraw the lawsuit in the interest of renewed peace and progress of the House in particular and the party in general.”

The speaker held a closed-door meeting with 39 lawmakers on Tuesday at the assembly facility.

Mrs. Mojisola Meranda, the Deputy Speaker, attended the meeting, which began at approximately 2:10 p.m.

The meeting aimed to ease tensions and bring aggrieved lawmakers back on board after Obasa was re-elected as Speaker on Monday following Mojisola Meranda’s resignation.

In January, lawmakers removed Obasa as Speaker, accusing him of poor leadership, abuse of power, frequent lateness to plenary sessions, and intimidating colleagues.

Over 90% of lawmakers supported the impeachment.

Obasa, on the other hand, contested the judgment, claiming that the parliamentarians failed to follow the constitutional process for his dismissal.

He also refuted the corruption charges, calling money embezzlement “impossible.”

To resolve the dispute, the Governor’s Advisory Council, led by Pa Tajudeen Olusi, met with opposing lawmakers, as did APC chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Lagos Attorney-General Lawal Pedro, and other party leaders.

Meranda was expected to resign as part of the arrangement, allowing him to return as Speaker.

According to reports, Obasa is scheduled to step down after 48 hours to make way for a new Speaker from Lagos West, as requested by 34 legislators.

According to reports, the lawmakers insisting on this arrangement expect it to be followed up with an official letter.
