Chelsea returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion, crushing bottom-placed Southampton 4-0 in the Premier League.

This result extends their strong record against teams starting the day at the foot of the table, securing their 12th win in 15 such encounters (D2, L1).

Despite Southampton’s hopes of securing back-to-back away league wins for the first time since June 2020, Chelsea took control early and never looked back.

Enzo Fernández created multiple early chances, twice setting up Cole Palmer, who misfired on both occasions. However, the breakthrough arrived soon after, with Christopher Nkunku pouncing on a loose ball from Tosin Adarabioyo’s header to slot home the opener.

Southampton’s rare attacking moment came when Paul Onuachu’s header forced a fine save from Filip Jorgensen, but the hosts quickly responded.

Pedro Neto doubled the lead with a precise finish past Aaron Ramsdale, and moments later, he turned provider, delivering a set-piece that Levi Colwill converted for his first goal of the season.

Chelsea remained dominant in the second half but squandered several opportunities. Fernández and Nkunku both came close, while Palmer continued his frustrating goal drought.

Eventually, the Blues added a fourth when substitute Tyrique George set up Marc Cucurella to fire home, sealing a comprehensive victory.

The win pushes Chelsea into the Premier League’s top four, at least temporarily, while Southampton’s struggles continue.

Ivan Juric’s side remains rooted to the bottom with just nine points, 13 adrift of safety, after conceding nine goals to Chelsea across both league meetings this season.
