Samuel Sunday, 13, was taken into custody by Akwa Ibom state police for bringing his father’s gun and threatening to shoot classmates at St. Paul Primary School in Ikot Ibiok, Eket Local Government Area (LGA).
Baba Mohammed Azare, the Commissioner of Police (CP) for the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, revealed on Wednesday in Uyo that the father of the minor suspect has also been taken into custody.
The police boss gave a briefing on the operations report for his command for the previous week, stating that it had seen continuous investigations, recoveries, and the arrest of suspected offenders for a variety of charges.
He said, “On 30/01/2025 at about 0800 hrs, the commander received information that on 28/01/2025 one Samuel Sunday”, a 13-year-old pupil of St. Paul Primary School Ikot Ibiok, was going armed (with a gun) in the school, threatening to fire at fellow pupils.
“The command swung into action, arrested the suspect, and recovered a locally made pistol. The suspect confessed he has had a gun since November 2024, that he got it from a wardrobe in his father’s bedroom. The father was later arrested. The investigation is still ongoing.”
In further recoveries, the Command over the last week also “arrested one Abasifreke Udo Thomas ‘m’ Aka Udo Orlando or Olamide of Ikot Ibiom village who shot one lady (name withheld) sometimes in December 2024.
“He was seen in a hotel. Operatives of the command immediately arrested the suspect, and a locally made pistol was recovered from him. The investigation is still ongoing.
“On 30/01/2025 at about 1307 hrs, our operatives arrested Uyobong Ekong Edet, ‘m’ aged 24 yrs, Israel Daniel Bassey, ‘m aged 18 yrs, and Nsikak Asuquo Okon, ‘m aged 18 yrs, for attempted murder, cultism, and unlawful possession of a firearm. m.
“Items recovered include one locally made pistol, three live cartridges, three machetes, a bottle of combined drink with red cloth on it filled with a concoction they confessed to be bullet resistant, wraps of suspected Indian hemp, and a cash sum of N371,550.00. Suspects will be charged in court accordingly.”
Azare also stated that two of the hoodlums, numbering about 20, were also arrested over the invasion of the Setraco company site at Use Ikot Amama, Ibiono Ibom LGA, with one locally made pistol recovered.
