Lionel Messi, who is currently playing for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer (MLS), where he arrived in the summer of 2023 following two seasons with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is planning to return to Barcelona after stint in the United States.
According to Argentine journalist and family friend Yanina Latorre, Messi has set his sights on a return to Barcelona once his time in Miami ends.
The Argentine legend, an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner and 2022 World Cup champion, made history during his 17-year tenure at Barcelona.
“Messi told me that when he is finished in Miami, where he is happy, he will return to Barcelona,” Latorre revealed.
The MLS season runs from late February to November, and Messi’s contract with Inter Miami is set to expire in December 2025.
While the club is reportedly keen on extending his stay, there have been speculations that the Argentine superstar is not considering an extension.
Inter Miami is exploring an option that would allow the former Barcelona captain to return to Europe in late 2025 and early 2026 to maintain his fitness.
However, when Latorre asked him about extending his contract with the MLS side, the Argentine response was clear: “No, my place is there (at Barcelona).”
