Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has signed a new nine-and-a-half-year contract, extending his stay at the club until 2034. The deal eliminates the release clauses included in his previous agreement, which was set to expire in June 2027.

The contract, described by The Athletic as one of the most lucrative in sports history, cements Haaland’s commitment to the club.

“I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club,” Haaland said. “Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters, and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.”

Haaland joined City in 2022 from Borussia Dortmund and has established himself as one of the most prolific strikers in world football under the guidance of Pep Guardiola. He has scored 111 goals in 126 appearances and has been instrumental in the club’s success, contributing to two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup.

“I also want to thank Pep, his coaching staff, my teammates, and everyone at the club as they have all helped me so much in the past couple of years,” Haaland added.

“They have made this such a special place to be, and now I am City no matter what. I want to keep developing, keep working to get better, and look to do my best to try and help us achieve more success going forward.” he continued.

This season, Haaland has netted 16 goals in the Premier League, but it has been a challenging campaign for City.

They currently sit sixth in the table, 12 points behind leaders Liverpool, following a difficult stretch of form, with only one win in their last 13 games across all competitions.

In the Champions League, Guardiola’s side remains on shaky ground, sitting just above the play-off line with two group-stage games remaining. Despite the struggles, Haaland’s new deal signals his intent to be a cornerstone of Manchester City’s future ambitions.
