    Terrorists kill four, including Airtel staff, in Kebbi attack

    Four people, including three employees of the telecommunications firm Airtel, were killed in a terrorist attack on January 10, 2025, in Gumki village, Arewa Local Government Area, Kebbi State.

    The victims were working on the installation of a surveillance mast for the Nigeria Immigration Service when the assailants, suspected to be members of the Lakurawa group, attacked the construction site around 8:47 pm.

    The fourth victim, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, was also killed during the incident.

    Confirming the attack, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, said, “Four people lost their lives in the attack, including three staff of Airtel and one local resident.”

    In response, the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, along with the Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kebbi State Command, CIS Muhammad Bashir Lawali, visited the scene. The victims’ bodies were later evacuated to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi.

    CP Sani has deployed additional tactical teams to the area with orders to track down and neutralize the attackers. He also met with community members, urging them to assist security agencies with intelligence.

    “Providing timely and accurate information is critical in addressing these security challenges,” CP Sani emphasized.

    The incident follows another attack by the same group less than a week ago, where two police officers were killed, raising concerns over escalating violence in the region.
