Marriage: Nigerians react as lady celebrates crash of parents' 27-year union

A lady, Feyi Alasho, has taken to social media to celebrate the crash of her parents’ 27-year-old abusive marriage.

Alasho, in a statement on her Instagram page, mentioned that her mother endured physical and emotional abuse from her father for 27 years.

She also revealed that due to her father’s abusive nature, her siblings and her ran out of the house.

”Today my mother left this 27-year abusive marriage. Father, I give the glory to you. Father Lord, thank you,” she wrote.

She added that ”four out of six children have left the house when this man almost made our lives miserable. We left the house eight years ago and never looked back.

”My heart was full of joy when she told me she just furnished her house. When will my siblings and I pay her a visit?”

Alasho’s statement has generated reactions from Nigerians online, with many lamenting the widespread cases of domestic abuse in the country.

Below are some of the reactions of Nigerians to the crash of Alasho’s parents’ 27-year-old marriage.

Anyanwu Ucee, ”We understand abuse when there are kids in marriage, but when the kids are now adults, no. You ran out of the house; can’t you guys tie the man to a tree?”

Justina Abisola, ”Wasting 27 years of your life with an abuser is cringy. I cannot endure 3 hours. Those generations of women endured a lot.”

Nwoko Joel, ”Abusive marriage is so disheartening; however, I won’t celebrate my parents separation or divorce on social media. It has a two-way consequence.

”How would people view the family I come from? Those things that bring shame and personal reflections are now celebrated without thinking twice. I bless my parents all day.”

Adams Abdlrahman, ”Hope the mother is not the problem. These products of abusive marriages, as claimed, would end up being abusive partners.”

De Light, ”Never trust a woman’s side of the story; they don’t just like men that stop them from misbehaving and living waywardly. As a man, pray for more male children than females because they are more easily manipulated by their mother against their father.

Precious Chinomso, ”I’m glad she was able to wait, and I must say she had her reasons for waiting till 27 good years. One of her reasons might be that she didn’t want her kids to go through divorce trauma.

”She didn’t want her kids to blame her for not getting their father involved in their lives.

”She didn’t want her children to see her as a bad mother who couldn’t keep a man when they’re grown.

”She didn’t want them to see their father as an innocent person simply because she chose to leave when they were young and naive. Etc. She took the step now because her kids are grown-ups. Congratulations to her.”

Tejiri Udin, ”And she must have celebrated 25 years anniversary with fake smiles and laughter, and people, especially my gender, will be doing awwwnnn.

”I tell people that it is not about how many years you have been married but if those years are worth it.”

Taiwo Oyeleye, ”What’s there to celebrate in witnessing the union that brought you into this world collapse during your lifetime?

”As a young lady, remember that your mom’s wars aren’t yours. With this very post, it’s clearly seen that she’s taking sides, but only God knows what misconceptions possibly her mother might have fed her about her dad.

”Regardless, your father’s blessings are a vital life hack you should lean on and pursue.

”In conclusion, airing your family’s affairs on social media proves you’re utterly naive. Every family faces problems and challenges; are you wiser than those who keep their stories private?”

Gabriel Moses, ”Thank God for your mom; my mother passed through the same thing; my father is a beast.”
