The Police Service Commission has approved the removal of 19 senior police officers, including 10 assistant superintendents, six deputy superintendents, two chief superintendents, and one superintendent.

The commission also recommended a fall in rank for 19 additional senior personnel, including one Assistant Commissioner of Police, one Chief Superintendent, two Superintendents, two Deputy Superintendents, and 13 Assistant Superintendents.

Two Assistant Inspectors General were also punished: one was reprimanded for refusing to carry out authorised instructions, while the other was issued a letter of caution for negligence.

Ikechukwu Ani, the PSC’s spokesman, said in a statement on Friday that numerous other officials deemed culpable got various sanctions, including severe rebuke, reprimand, and a letter of caution.

He stated that the decision was made at the commission’s last segment of its first plenary meeting in Abuja.

“Most of the officers dismissed are also to be prosecuted by the Legal Unit of the Nigeria Police Force. Three pending disciplinary matters were stepped down with a request for further information from the Inspector General of Police.

“The commission also considered 23 appeals and petitions and nine legal matters/court judgements,” Ani added.

Ani stated that 110 pending disciplinary matters, 23 appeals and petition cases, and 13 court orders requesting compliance were discussed in plenary.

Speaking, the Commission’s Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.), stated that the Commission will now consider disciplinary matters with the goal of freeing officers who do not wish to continue their career progression and those found culpable of serving their punishments.
