The Ogun State Police Command has issued a warning against voter intimidation, electoral violence, and any other actions that could disturb the impending local government poll in the state.

Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, issued a statement on Friday urging residents to cooperate with security personnel during Saturday’s polls across the state’s 20 LGs and 237 wards.

The statement read, “In response to the Independent Electoral Commission’s announcement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abidodun Mustapha, has established security measures throughout the state to maintain law and order during the electoral process.

“The public is urged to support the election procedures, avoid intervening in any unlawful manner, and refrain from actions that violate election laws, such as ballot box snatching and incitement to violence.

“Politicians are cautioned against making inflammatory remarks that could provoke tension at polling stations. The Ogun State Police Command’s role is to ensure the safety of all voters and the protection of electoral materials.”

The police command also announced movement restrictions from Saturday morning until the afternoon to ensure a smooth and orderly electoral process.

“From 6am to 3pm, restrictions will be in place to facilitate a smooth voting process. Regulations are being enforced on various commercial transport services to ensure compliance.

“Individuals ineligible due to registration issues or for other reasons are advised to refrain from using intimidation or disruption tactics and to remain at home.

“Police mobile forces, tactical teams, intervention squads, and undercover detectives are deployed in high-risk areas and are prepared to apprehend anyone attempting to create chaos or engage in illegal activities,” the statement added.

The state government, through its Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, proclaimed Friday (today) a work-free day to allow civil staff to travel to their LGs to vote.
