The Nigerian Police Force has identified and detained its operatives allegedly involved in the extortion of N2.3m from one Nwosu Ndubuisi.

This was revealed in a statement by the Zone 7 Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP M.B. Abdulkadir, on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.

Abdulkadir also mentioned that the N2 3M has been recovered and returned to the victim.

He stated, “Further to the earlier statement issued on the alleged extortion of one Mr. Ndubuisi Nwosu by some officers of Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, an investigation was carried out, and the officers allegedly involved in the extortion have been identified and detained, while disciplinary proceedings have commenced against them.

“The sum of N2.3m has been recovered and returned to Mr. Ndubuisi Nwosu.

“The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Charge of Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, AIG Benneth C. Igweh, reassures the general public that, in line with the transparency and accountability policy of the present Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, the zone will update members of the public on the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings against the defaulters.

“He further affirms that the Zone 7 headquarters remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the rule of law, public safety, security, and its mandate of protecting lives and properties.”

Harrison Gwamnishu, an X user with the handle #HarrisonBbi18, said that officers reportedly extorted N2.3 million from Ndubuisi.

According to the claim, the officers coerced Ndubuisi into selling his laptop at Banex Plaza in Abuja to pay for his bail. Following this disclosure, Igweh initiated an investigation on the charges.

The extortion came to light after Harrison Gwamnishu, an X user with the handle #HarrisonBbi18, revealed that officers allegedly extorted N2.3m from Ndubuisi.

According to the report, the operatives forced Ndubuisi to sell his laptop at Banex Plaza in Abuja to pay for his bail.
