A man, Dada Adesonye, committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree in the Afami neighbourhood of Imasayi, Yewa North Local Government Area, Ogun State.

Omolola Odutola, the state police public relations officer, told our correspondent over the phone on Friday that the victim’s body was discovered by a worker in the area in the early hours of the day.

She stated that after getting the information, police officers went to the scene and discovered several items, including a payment card and N2,000.

She said, “On October 18, 2024, at approximately 8.27 am, the Divisional Police Officer reported a suspected suicide incident. An assistant at Dangote Cement Transport in Ibese informed the Dangote Police Post that he discovered a lifeless body around 8:10 am.

“The deceased, later identified as Dada Adesonye, 24, from Abeokuta, was found hanging from a tree along Dangote-Afami Road. The duty officer at the police post promptly alerted law enforcement, and a team was dispatched to the scene.

“Upon investigation, photographs were taken, revealing no signs of violence on the body. Personal items found in the deceased’s pockets included a payment card, a key holder, an earbud, and N2,000.”

Odutola stated that the victim’s body was released to the family upon request for burial.

She asked families to keep an eye out for their loved ones who may be exhibiting unusual behaviour.

“The body has been released to the family for burial. Further updates will be provided, and in the meantime, please remain calm and vigilant.

“Police urged families to monitor their loved ones amid rising youth suicides,” Odutola said.
