The leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress are currently meeting with members from the Federal Government in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to discuss the recent increase in the price of petrol.
Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser; Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, the Labour Minister; and Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, attended the meeting.
Other attendees were Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information; Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum; Ekperikpe Ekpo, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources; and representatives from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited.
The Nigeria Labour Congress previously condemned the recent increase in the pump price of fuel.
The workers also sought an immediate reversal of the raise, accusing the administration of focusing primarily on gasoline price increases.
In a statement signed by its president, Joe Ajaero, the NLC urged the government to tell Nigerians of the country’s intended destiny.
The latest increase has seen NNPCL outlets in Lagos sell a litre of petrol for N998 from the initial price of N855, while in Abuja, it went to N1,030 from N897.
In other filling stations, the price of the product goes for as much as N1,050 in some parts of Lagos State.
