The Katsina State Police Command’s officers have prevented two bandit attacks, rescued five abducted victims, and neutralised two kidnappers.

This was revealed by the command’s spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, in a press statement released to the Punch on Monday.

Sadiq stated that the command received a distress call on Sunday regarding a bandit attack on Layin Minister Village in the Malumfashi LGA of the state.

He claimed that five people were kidnapped during the raid.

The police boss said, “On August 25, 2024, at about 1000 hrs, a distress call was received at the Malumfashi Divisional Police Headquarters about a bandit attack on Layin Minister Village, Malumfashi LGA, kidnapping five (5) people.

“Upon receipt of the report, operatives were quickly mobilised and dispatched to the scene. On noticing the presence of the police, the hoodlums opened fire on the operatives, to which they responded gallantly. ”

He stated that all the kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unhurt as the assailants succumbed to the superior firepower of the operatives and fled the scene with varying degrees of bullet injuries.

“On the same date, at about 1740 hrs, a distress call was received at Malumfashi Divisional Police Headquarters that some suspected armed bandits riding on twelve (12) motorcycles, wielding dangerous weapons, shooting sporadically, taking advantage of the downpour, attacked Marabar Kankara village, Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State.

“On receipt of the information, DPO Malumfashi swiftly mobilised security operatives, who rushed to the scene and gallantly engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel and successfully foiled the attack.

“In the course of scanning the scene, the bodies of two (2) neutralised suspected armed bandits were recovered, while efforts are being intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects as an investigation has commenced,” he added.
