Peter Obi, the Labour Party candidate in the 2023 presidential election, has demanded Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Communication and Strategy, to retract his statement and publicly apologise over his claims that Obi is the brain behind the hunger and hardship protest being organised by dissatisfied Nigerians.
Onanuga had, in a statement, accused the former Governor of Anambra State and his supporters over plans to unleash mayhem in Nigeria under the guise of a protest.
Reacting to Onanuga’s accusations, Obi, through his legal council, filed a notice against Onanuga, titled, ‘Revealed, Peter Obi’s supporters are the people planning mayhem in Nigeria.’
The Labour Party chieftain, in the notice, demands Onanuga’s retraction of his statement in “the publication and tender an unreserved apology to him within 72 hours.”
The former governor of Anambra State is also demanding “an unequivocal demand for monetary damages of five billion naira for the embarrassment your defamatory publication has caused him and his family.”
The notice adds that in the event Onanuga fails to meet his demands, the Labour Party chieftain “shall be constrained to approach a court of competent jurisdiction and take legal action” against the presidential aide.
