Two soldiers at a military post in Tegina, Rafi Local Government Area, Niger State, were shot and injured by terrorists.

One of the problematic local government areas (LGAs) in Niger State is Rafi.

Terrorists constantly target Rafi, preventing farmers from accessing their farms.

It was reported that the military base strike happened early on Monday.

It was discovered that during the gunfight, two soldiers were shot and wounded, leaving one of the assailants dead.

Ayuba Katako, the Chairman of the Rafi Local Government Area, who confirmed the incident, said, “It happened in my domain. The two soldiers have been taken to the IBB Specialist Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

In order to defeat the threat of insecurity afflicting the state and all of Nigeria, Katako denounced the ongoing attacks on soldiers and other security personnel. He also called for patience, support, and prayer.

It was not possible to get in touch with the Niger State military cantonment in Minna for a comment.

Calls to Wasiu Abiodun, the Niger police spokesman’s mobile number, were unsuccessful; thus, attempts to reach him were also unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, operatives of Operation Whirl Punch and Operation Forest Sanity II continued their patrol of the Rijana general area of the Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Monday, as they killed two bandits during a clearance operation.

This occurred less than a day after the army shot and killed five bandits in the Kachia-Kajuru general region. Several others were also wounded.

In a statement released on Monday, Samuel Aruwan, the commissioner for internal security and home affairs, revealed that forces conducting a clearance operation engaged some bandits in a gunfight in the Rijana area, killing two while wounding scores more.

He said that the soldiers found two motorcycles, two AK-47 magazines, nineteen rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, two cell phones, and two MP3 players in addition to three AK-47 guns.

He said, “According to operational feedback to the Kaduna State Government, the troops began their advance, clearing several locations, including Amale, Gidan Jatau, Gidan Danfulani, and Gidan Duna, with no resistance.

“As the forces progressed to Gidan Dutse, the troops made contact with bandits, and, in the ensuing firefight, two of the criminals were neutralised while several escaped with gunshot wounds.

“The troops searched the area and recovered three AK-47 rifles, two motorcycles, two AK-47 magazines, 19 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, two mobile phones, and two MP3 players.

“The Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, expressed satisfaction at the report and congratulated the troops for another sterling outing. The governor praised the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. T.A. Lagbaja, and the unflinching morale of the troops in the ongoing operations.”
