Muhammad Bello, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Gombe State, disclosed that Yahaya Buba, the uncle who amputated his 21-year-old nephew’s arms, will be prosecuted for attempted murder.

In a chat with newsmen in Gombe, Bello lamented Adamu Mohammed’s hands being tied for allegedly stealing a phone.

It was gathered that Mohammed’s arms were restrained, which resulted in their amputation.

The tying had caused his arms to become numb following a lack of blood flow.

The commandant said, “We are charging him for attempted murder. What he did was an attempt at the boy’s life; for life, he has incapacitated him.”

Refuting claims that the Corps would release him following the close ties he shares with the victim, he bemoaned the complicity of the victim’s father for using the money provided to treat his son.

“We are not mad to release him (the perpetrator). Initially, we arrested the biological father for his pure act of cruelty.

“The money is given to him by the uncle; he takes it and flees, leaving his son to suffer. He didn’t give the boy the proper treatment early enough, even when the culprit, Yahaya Buba, provided it,” he said.

Bello criticized an alleged non-governmental organization for taking credit for the treatment of Mohammed.

He said, “We will investigate Gongola Charity Foundation claims; of course, that is not correct. It is dubious for them to take credit for doing nothing. NSCDC has been taking care of the boy in line with its mandate of defending the defenseless.”
