In a bid to intensify the fight against economic and financial crimes in Nigeria, the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has urged Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) across the country to bolster their existing partnerships with the Commission.

Dele Oyewale, EFCC’s head of media and publicity made this known in a statement on Wednesday seen by Chronicle NG.

Addressing members of CSOs in Edo State during an interactive session at the Benin Zonal Command of the EFCC, Mr. Olukoyede emphasized the pivotal role of CSOs in tackling the menace of corruption.

Olukoyede who was represented by the Ag. Zonal Director, ACE I Effa Imoh Okim stressed the importance of collaboration, stating, “Let’s work together in tackling the menace of corruption. Our first choice is prevention, and that is where the CSOs come in.”

Highlighting the detrimental effects of corruption on national development, Mr. Olukoyede called on CSOs to serve as whistleblowers and intelligence gatherers in the fight against corruption. He emphasized the need for authentic information to enhance collaboration between CSOs and the EFCC.

Responding to the call for cooperation, Kelly Osunbor, President of the Faculty of Peace, expressed the willingness of CSOs to support the EFCC in achieving its mandate. “Nigeria is our country, it’s our home, so we will work with you in your quest to build a better country,” Osunbor affirmed.

Similarly, Leftist Austine Enabulele, Interim Chair of Edo Civil Society Organizations, echoed Osunbor’s sentiments, reaffirming their commitment to collaboration with the EFCC.

The EFCC’s initiative to strengthen ties with CSOs underscores the importance of collective action in combating corruption and fostering national development.
