The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company has reduced the tariff paid by its Band A consumers to N206.80 per kilowatt-hour, down from the N225/kWh permitted by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Olufadeke Omo-Omorodion, the IKEDC’s spokeswoman, informed our correspondent on Monday via a notice.

According to the announcement by the Ikeja DisCo, the downward tariff revision for Band A consumers will take effect on Monday, May 6, 2024.

While the Ikeja DisCo guaranteed a minimum of 20 hours of daily electricity delivery for individuals on Band A feeders, it stated that pricing for customers on other bands remained constant.

“Dear esteemed customers, please be informed of the downward tariff review of our Band A feeders from N225/kWh to N206.80/kWh effective May 6, 2024, with guaranteed availability of 20–24 hours of supply daily.

“The tariff for Bands B, C, D, and E remains unchanged,” the IKEDC stated.

On April 3, the NERC raised the electricity cost for Band A users from N68 to N255 per kilowatt-hour, claiming that other customers were unaffected by the increase.

Since the announcement of the additional multi-year tariff order, consumers classified as Band A have complained that the increase in energy bills is putting a strain on their budgets, urging the Federal Government to rethink the policy.

However, while appearing before the Senate Committee on Power for an investigation into the tariff hike last Monday, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, warned that if the electricity tariff hike was not implemented, the country would experience a total blackout within the next three months.
