Students of the Plateau State University, Bokkos, have staged a protest following an attack by bandits that led to the death of one of their colleagues.

The aggrieved students who bemoaned the incessant attack by bandits on their school condemned the attack by terrorists on their school premises on Thursday, April 18, 2024.

They alleged that students of the institution have become victims of kidnapping, murder, and rape by bandits.

In a now-viral video, the students could be seen carrying the corpse of James Alesah Longworth Dading, a student of the institution who was allegedly killed as bandits raided the institution.

They aggrieved students, blocked the major road leading to the institution, and sang solidarity songs as they cried out to the governor of the state, Caleb Mutfwang, and the federal government to come to their aid.

Commenting on the attack, Talutu Gomam, in a statement on Facebook, mentioned that parents live in fear over their children and wards attending the institution.

She said, “Last night was long and scary for us at home; we couldn’t sleep well because of the attack in Bokkos.

“Since my younger brother started school at Plateau State University Bokkos, it hasn’t been easy with my mom psychologically, especially when we hear of any attack.

“For how long must this go on? The priority of every government should be the safety of the lives and properties of its citizens.

“There can’t be any form of development if peace and security are not guaranteed. How can you send your precious child to school and then have them bring a lifeless child for you?

“Today is this young man, James Alesah Longworth, and we don’t know who’s next if this continues.

“Plateau State government needs to find a way to end these killings. Safeguard our children and people. May your soul rest in peace, and may God comfort your loved ones.”

At the time of filing this report, army operatives had been deployed to stop any further breakdown of law and order in the locality.
