A social media influencer, Emeka Gift, has alleged that the arrest of controversial Nigerian cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly called Bobrisky, is a deliberate decoy to “target the Igbos.”

In a statement on Saturday, Gift alleged that the arrest of the cross-dresser was a ploy to “clamp down on” those of the Igbo ethnic extraction.

His statement follows the arrest of the cross-dresser by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Chronicle NG reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested and detained the cross-dresser, over abuse of the naira, spraying of naira notes, and currency mutilation.

Confirming the development on Thursday, the spokesperson for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, noted that he would be charged in court.

“Bobrisky is with us. He was arrested last night in Lagos, and he is at our Lagos command. We arrested him for alleged abuse of naira notes, spraying of nara notes, and currency mutilation, among others.”

Reacting to the arrest and arraignment of the cross-dresser, Gift commented, “They used Bobrisky’s case to target the Igbos. He pleaded guilty, and they sentenced him to five days of imprisonment.

“On the 9th of April, he will be freed. Their target is the Igbos. They just used Bobrisky to water the group of possible clamping down on Igbos. Our people should be careful.”

The EFCC, on Friday, April 5, 2024, secured the conviction of Bobrisky before Justice Abimbola Awogboro sitting at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, over the mutilation of the naira notes.

He was arraigned on Friday on a four-count charge bordering on mutilation of the Naira notes to the tune of N490,000,00 (four hundred and ninety thousand Naira).
