The Lagos State Magistrates Court sitting in Oshodi has convicted hoodlums extorting traders and other users of the pedestrian bridge across the state.

Magistrate Oshikoya found the suspects guilty of breach of public peace and illegal collection of money from people with goods and sentenced the defendants to 1 month in prison.

Also, the magistrate court sitting in Oshodi convicted 17 defendants for crossing the highway and not making use of the pedestrian bridges. The court found them guilty and sentenced them to 2 months in prison with the option of a N7,000 fine.

Chronicle NG reports that the Lagos State Government has arrested hoodlums suspected of extorting businessmen and residents for utilizing a pedestrian bridge in the Yaba district of the state.

Tokunbo Wahab, the state commissioner for environment and water resources, announced on Thursday via his X account.

Wahab stated that the arrest was made in reaction to a viral video showing the defendants carrying out the extortion.

The accused, whose identities were not revealed, were said to have levied a N100 fee on each pedestrian carrying bags.
