Nigeria ranked tenth in Africa’s most unsafe countries for women, the Georgetown Institute’s 2023 WPS Index disclosed.

The 2023 edition of the global Women Peace and Security Index (WPS Index) scores and ranks 177 countries in terms of women’s inclusion, justice, and security.

Nigeria placed number ten in Africa-based data collected for unsafe countries for women in the region.

The data, which was sex-specific, put the Central African Republic at the top spot, followed by the Democratic Republic of Congo, in ascending order.

South Sudan, Burundi, and Eswatini rank third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.

While Somalia, Niger, and Sudan enlisted sixth, seventh, and eighth.

Chad and Nigeria were ninth and tenth on the list, respectively.

The WPS Index offers a tool for identifying where resources and accountability are needed most to advance women’s status in the world.
