Barring any last-minute change, there are strong indications that President Bola Tinubu will renew the tenure of the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi.

Confirming the development, his son Abba, in a post via his X (formerly Twitter) handle seen by Chronicle NG thanked President Bola Tinubu for giving his father another 4 years to serve a the DG of the DSS.

“Four years again. Thank you, Allah, and also the president of the federal republic of Nigeria. The DSS is in safe hands as usual. Thank you Mr. President, for the tenure renewal.” Abba tweeted, appreciating President Tinubu.

The secret police boss who in recent time was accused of several corrupt practices have in past been figured in the center of many controversies.

Last December, the DSS boss was accused of looting staff subsidy grants by a member of the Peoples Democratic Party and supporter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Jackson Ude.

Ude in a post via his X handle (@jacksonpbn), accused Bichi of cornering grants meant to ameliorate the hardship imposed by the Tinubu administration’s removal of subsidies on petrol allocated to men of the State Security Service.

The secret police boss, according to Ude, also granted himself a suspicious severance package, which he tagged “Goodbye Allowance.”

The son of the DSS boss, Abba, is also known court controversies frequently as a result of his extravagant lifestyle in public glare.

Early this year in the heat of scarcity of Naira notes, Abba was captured in a viral video spraying bundles of new naira notes on a popular actress and Senator Ned Nwoko’s wife, Regina Daniels, at a nightclub in the country’s capital city, Abuja.

The young Bichi is well-known for showing off his wealth on social media.

Spraying of naira notes at public gatherings is not only considered an offence according to The CBN Act 2007, section 21, sub-sections 3 and 4, which was also considered insensitive to the plight of Nigerians during the Yuletide due to the scarcity of currency.

The act of spraying, dancing, or marching on the naira or any note issued by the Bank (CBN) during social occasions or otherwise is considered as abuse and defacing of the naira or such note. This act is punishable under sub-section (1) of this section.
