The Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress have suspended ongoing nationwide strike on Wednesday night.
According to the unions, the suspension was prompted by the participation of Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser.
Chronicle NG gathered that the meeting, which began a few minutes after 7 p.m., lasted close to an hour, during which various affiliates and state chapters discussed the conclusion of the meeting between organised labour leaders and Ribadu.
Tommy Etim, the TUC’s National Deputy Vice-President, confirmed this to our correspondent in Abuja.
“The NEC of the NLC and the TUC have suspended the strike. We did this based on our trust for the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who gave us his words,” he said.
The labour leaders met with Ribadu and Labour Minister Simon Lalong on Wednesday afternoon at the NSA Office.
The NSA had declared that the perpetrators of Ajaero’s brutalization had been apprehended.
The NLC and TUC is protesting the alleged brutalization of its national president, Joe Ajaero, as well as the government’s inability to fully execute several of the October 2, 2023, accords.
