No fewer than 93 explosives (ordnance) have been recovered at the Ikeja Military Cantonment, Lagos.

The recovery was carried out as part of the continuing ‘Exercise Clean Sweep,’ which began on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

A clean sweep is being conducted to sanitize the site of the 2002 bomb blast at the cantonment.

The recovered explosives were of varied calibres and descriptions, according to the Army.

Colonel Abdulrazaq Kazeem, Director of Explosives Search and Disposal, Nigeria Army Engineers, and Coordinator of Exercise Clean Sweep, announced this in his first update on the exercise on Thursday.

Kazeem stated that, “So far, a total of 93 unexploded ordnances have been recovered from the site.

“The moment we reach the maximum limits of explosives within our holding area, such ordinances will be moved to the range.

“If we get to the explosive limits today, I will move to the range today. We would not exceed a kilogramme above the explosive limits because it is measured in lograms. We wouldn’t cross that line. At 93, we have not yet reached the limits,” he reiterated.
