The Premier League has condemned the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas and has announced that Premier League clubs will observe a minute’s silence in honour of those affected by the ongoing crisis.

This was contained in a statement by the Premier League on Thursday.

With no games scheduled this weekend owing to the international break, the Premier League has stated that when the season begins on October 21, their players, managers, and match officials will show their respect.

The statement reads, “The Premier League is shocked and saddened by the escalating crisis in Israel and Gaza and strongly condemns the horrific and brutal acts of violence against civilians.

“We hope for peace, and our heartfelt sympathies are with the victims, their families, and the communities impacted.

“As a mark of respect for all those affected, Premier League players, managers, and match officials will wear black armbands and observe a moment’s silence at the fixtures taking place from Saturday 21 to Monday 23 October.

“The League will also make a donation to the British Red Cross to support the aid efforts helping those in urgent need.”

The English Football League has announced that a minute’s silence will be observed across League One and Two fixtures this weekend, while the championship is also paused for the international break, as well as a donation to the British Red Cross and a minute’s silence.

In the same vein, the English Football Association also issued a statement on Thursday, stating that England and Australia players will wear black armbands for their friendly at Wembley on Friday.

Last Saturday, Hamas, the terrorist group that governs the Gaza Strip of the Palestinian territories, staged a surprise attack, prompting Israel to fire retaliatory air strikes.

No fewer than 2,500 people in Israel and Palestine have died since hostilities between both warring factions began.
