The group life insurance claims ordered by President Bola Tinubu would benefit no fewer than 6,732 relatives of Nigerian soldiers.
Beneficiaries are the families of soldiers slain in the line of duty between 2011 and 2022.
Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, revealed this during a chat with our correspondent on Wednesday.
He said, ‘’There are about 6,732 beneficiaries of the group life insurance.”This between 2011 and 2022.”
Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, revealed on Wednesday that Tinubu has directed that all pending Group Life Assurance payments owing to the families of departed soldiers be paid without delay.
The Army chief stated that insurance firms refused to pay claims because premiums were unpaid.
He stated that the president had cleared all backlogs in order to provide relief to the families of the deceased servicemen.
Lagbaja said, “We have a backlog between the years 2012 and 2022 when claims were not paid and some people died in the cause of service to the nation. So the insurance companies don’t have the liberty to pay claims for premiums not paid, and that is why the federal government took it upon itself at this stage to discharge that backlog and bring relief to the families of our departed colleagues.”
